How to be a great risk taker?

“So we shall let the reader answer this question for himself: who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?”

To be a great risk taker may seem to be difficult at first and challenging but it also could be very rewording too. Great risk takers come in all different shapes and forms some are young, some are woman, some are man, some are poor and some are rich.  What I am really trying to say is that there is no perfect match for people who are great risk takers.  There is a huge difference between someone who takes risks and the person who doesn’t.

The person who does take risk seems to be a great problem solver.  In reality we are all great risk takers the problem is that when we grow up into adult hood we unlearn many skills by letting the outside world have a huge influence over us because negative information has been flowing into our family homes and affects the way we think about ourselves and the outside world.  If we tell ourself’s that the world is not safe than we start to believe it, over time we share this with our friends and before you know it, everyone is having doubts about themselves.  Now we do not want this to happen and so how do we prevent that from becoming a reality.  It starts when an individual thinks different from the majority of the group, now it doesn’t mean necessary that all these people succeed in living a great life, but it is a great start.

Marissa Mayer is a good example of someone who is a great risk taker.  Mayer is one of the youngest Fortune 500 CEO’s who worked very hard to get to where she is now.   From working out at midnight and writing code to 3 am.  Marissa is only 38 and she likes to do things that may seem risky to many people.  She believes risks help her innovate.  Google was the first place where she began her learning process and also where she gained a lot of respect and experience. Taking on a new job by becoming a CEO at Yahoo is not an easy task.  Because there is a lot of responsibilities that comes with that job that many of us would probably fail at, not to mention she also has to raise her new-born child.  It will be interesting to see what she will do in next five year’s.  In other words great risk takers are problem solvers and that is exactly what Mrs. Mayer is doing at Yahoo.  She is taking a risk not just with work but her time.  I am sure she could be doing other fun things but she believes in leading instead of just existing.   Part of her success comes from being surrounded by very smart people.  Key point is that she was in similar situation like many of us right now.  A place where many people want to make something great for this world and Mayer is a great person to look at and see that it is possible.  Marissa Mayer says.    ” In the end, we are all capable of so much more than we think.” Keep an Extra Open Mind so you can stop existing and start living a great life.

How can we learn from Mayer today?

1.   Show up.

2.  Think different or have an Extra Open Mind to life.

3.  Surround yourself with people who are smarter than yourself and learn from them as fast as you can.

4.  Take risk.

5.  Keep going, and keep it simple.
